Wedding photos capture an incredible and joyful celebration in our lives, and immortalize our bridal beauty, personality, and style.  With this in mind, a concern for many brides and a frequently asked question for our Mélange bridal consultants is, “How can I create a timeless look for my wedding day?”

The ideas and suggestions below can help support brides who want to be forever lovely and timeless in their wedding photos.

Simplicity & Silhouette

There is beauty in simplicity.  Bridal fabrics such as lace, chiffon, satin, and silk in ballgown and A-line silhouettes evoke luxury and timelessness.  The combination of these fabrics and silhouettes enable a wedding gown to look regal and stand out.  If you look through many of the recent royal wedding dresses, you’ll notice that underneath the tiara and veil, many of these A-line silhouette gowns share similar fabrics and a sense of simplicity.  And, they will remain absolutely beautiful and elegant no matter how much time passes. 

Veil

Historically, wedding veils were worn to protect brides from mischievous spirits.  Wearing a wedding veil is timeless and one of the oldest bridal traditions passed down from generation to generation.  Veils continue to be a prefect compliment to wedding gowns.  Some veils can add drama, while others are short and sweet.  Veils edged in appliques and/or lace can give brides a wonderful opportunity to keep their wedding gown simple, and still include some embellishment in their overall look.  Brides who want to create a timeless look and prefer fit and flare and/or modern gown silhouettes can pair their dress with long veils to create the illusion of a train during their ceremony.   For some brides, it is the act of placing the wedding veil during their bridal appointment that evokes a sense of joy and anticipation toward their big day.

Jewelry

Jewelry can add a magical touch to any bridal ensemble.  Whether it is a family heirloom, a gift, or the start of your own collection, jewelry can help give brides a little added sparkle on their wedding day.  Pearls in particular are legendary.  The key to adding jewelry and creating a timeless wedding look is not to overdo it, and to look at the overall cut, silhouette, and style of your wedding gown.  A simple string pearl necklace or pearl earrings will always look polished and beautiful in wedding photos.  Ornamental hair accessories such as combs and headbands can also add a little timeless sparkle.
