Trains and How-to-Bustle Them
January 21, 2023When and how to shop for your Mother of the Bride or Groom dress
May 30, 2023Melange Bridal has endless experience alleviating any concerns mother’s may have during their shopping experience, find out how we can help you by reading through the list of the most common insecurities mothers have.
- She is often the last to purchase. A mothers tendency to take care of others needs before her own is not uncommon. To remedy this concern, we suggest finding your gown in a shop that specializes in mom’s dresses. Shopping online can make it difficult to cater the dress to your body, and in-store stylists are experts at hiding or accentuating certain areas. Schedule an appointment around the time your bride is scheduling hers, to account for alterations and shipping time!
- She is body conscious. Every woman has a part of her body she would like to change, and mothers can be particularly insecure on their child’s wedding day. At Melange Bridal, we want mothers to feel comfortable sharing those concerns so we can accommodate those needs. Certain silhouettes can completely camouflage a tummy, or elongate a torso. Beautiful sleeves or scarves can also be added to create an elegant look, while hiding any insecurities.
- She may feel guilty about her budget. Some mothers may have an unrealistic budget when coming in to look at gowns. At Melange Bridal we love to remind mothers how important it is for them to feel confident and special too. Mothers play an important role in the wedding and shouldn’t feel guilty about looking the part! Some mom’s need help seeing the value they bring to the occasion. We may also suggest finding a gown you would enjoy wearing again with simple alterations after the wedding.
- She is a people-pleaser. A mom can easily get caught up in matching her gown to the bridesmaids, or to the color scheme of the wedding, or in anything that everyone will approve of. Stylists love to open their eyes to the possibility of complementing the bridal party with analogous colors or something complementary, even neutral will please the eye. Mothers deserve to look and feel their best in whatever they choose.
- She is reluctant to try anything on. Wether she fears nothing will look good on her, or she wants to delay the process, getting a mother to try on a dress is half the battle. Dresses can often look completely different on the rack versus on someones body. Trying on the gowns is the only way to see what fits best and is most flattering on your body type. As you find styles that pique your interest, we are happy to start a fitting room.
- She may be as emotional as the bride. We understand that shopping for a dress to wear as the mother of the bride or groom can illicit the emotional realization that her “baby” has grown up. At Melange bridal we are not only a listening ear, but a shoulder to cry on. Let us help remind you about the excitement of the occasion and all the positives! Some bridal shops even have stylists that can relate to the feelings of their child getting married, don’t be afraid to confide in your consultant.
- She values personal service. When a mom decides to come into the shop rather than go online, this is great news! We love to provide our mom’s with the pampering and attention that they deserve, just like the bride.
Whatever mom you may be Melange Bridal is here to help you to find the perfect dress!
